Marie Louise-Desage listening to a child

What is Histoire d'Êtres?

In French, histoire means both history and story, and être means both to be and a being.

Story is singular, because beneath every life there is only one: the human story. We love, we lose, we begin again, and we wonder what we will pass on.

Beings is plural, because this one story is told by countless voices, each unique, each irreplaceable. The more personal a story is, the more universal it becomes.

Each portrait film I create is a bijou de mémoire, a keepsake of memory: a way to leave a trace, and to give those who come after us a voice, a gaze, a presence to hold on to.

A company is no different. Behind every brand there is a founder, a conviction, a why that no slogan can capture. That story is what makes a brand irreplaceable, and it deserves to be told in the voice of the person who lived it.

The manifesto

One day, only the stories will remain.

Voices fade before faces. The gestures, the laughter, the way someone used to say your name: all of it slips away before we ever see it go.

A film doesn't preserve what someone did. It preserves who they were.

Marie Louise-Desage

From the classroom to the camera: the art of listening

Twelve years as a teacher, drawing people out, listening, putting them at ease. For Marie, filming is first and foremost listening, with a camera.

Her visual language, sensitive and centred on people, their voice, their presence, was shaped by years on stage, in music and in teaching. In the filmed portrait, she finds the space where singularity becomes the very substance of the story.

The method

Listen, capture, sculpt

Every portrait seeks the essence: what someone has lived through, what they pass on, the inner conviction that makes them irreplaceable.

Listen

Open questions, a reassuring space. Words are given room to settle, never staged.

Capture

A discreet camera, carefully considered light. The image serves the emotion, never the other way round.

Sculpt

A story pared down to what truly matters, without artifice or excess.
